FAQs

DonorPoint ... In a nutshell, what does it do?
Think in terms
of a cash machine, yet instead of giving out cash, DonorPoint allows your
organisation or charity to collect donations directly from debit and credit
cards! The unit also captures Gift Aid details and any other donor data you may
need for your appeal or membership. It’s a floor mounted, yet portable unit,
which can be used anywhere you have a plug socket and mobile signal. Ideal for
fundraising days, concourse promotions, as well as fixed in more permanent
locations as visitor and shopping centres and the like.
But do people actually use them and donate using
their debit or credit card?
But how does it all work?
In layman’s terms, a
DonorPoint contains a small computer, a printer for receipts and a funky touch
screen, along with a secure (modem) mobile phone, that speaks directly to the
various banks to check that cards are valid and have available funds. All very
technical, but the important thing is, it works.
Ah ha, I see, but is it secure?
Yes perfectly, the unit does not store any details, Credit Card or Gift Aid in the machine. They are whizzed off to our secure and off-site data centre, and all transactions are then authorised and approved by your bank. They are fully approved by the banks, as are all Chip and Pin terminals.
What a great idea, why has nobody ever invented one
of these before?
There is an urban legend that a similar concept reached prototype stage some time ago, but got no further because the banks would not approve it. Thus making DonorPoint the only machine of its kind in the UK to have been type approved by both Streamline (Natwest) and BMS (Barclays).
DonorPoint sounds great! I want one for my
organisation, but how much will it cost?
